Nice reading such enthusiasm about my county. These projects are indeed a pleasure and we have always worked together with the North Sea and our rivers. Building techniques to last the impact of the (salty seas) water are a build up experience for ages. We also have plenty of forested areas and I see developments of a like communities building up in these forested areas, where also balance is sought for living family lives in cooperation with nature. Exiting times, transition in practice :-)

This is an insanely wonderful read.. thank you so much! I am so excited about it, even though we are 70/72 so have no hope of ever finding, let alone moving to a place like this.. but it is brilliant to know that there are people in the world who are creating this new way of living, and adopting it. <3

...and who was the Entrepreneur and who was the Architect? Accolades and intros would be another interesting conversation to read.

Space & Matter is the architectural firm that designed Schoonschip!

Life there sounds lovely, but I have a concern. I owned a small sailboat for 10 years and read a lot about owning and living on a larger sailboat. The sea is relentless in its impact on mechanical systems. Even in a sheltered harbor, the North Sea will not be tamed. Will these floating houses last as long as their well built counterparts on land?

Excellent question. I don't know the answer, but I suspect that in many areas, a floating home with higher ongoing maintenance costs but lower risk of being severely damaged by a flood would be an increasingly good deal.
