Thanks so much for your thorough review of the outlook for climate progress despite US's world historical act of self-sabotage. I would be interested in learning more about state level pro-abundance measures to keep clean energy development on track despite potential losses of federal funding and our descent into a banana republic protecting inferior national products. (I loved your alternative reality version reaction to Sputnik. Seems like a Russian thing, indeed.)

I drove a BYD Seal hybrid for 1800 miles as a rental vehicle in the UK. It’s a great car, and made my Subaru feel lacking (they are reliable, but have dragged their feet in the hybrid and EV arena.) It felt comparable to a Mercedes GL450 rental I had last year.

All this was foreseen 30 years ago and The US reaction was to off shore manufacturing and go into service industries ( including software/Tech and Knowledge Management). This lack of Maintaining infrastructure and ‘Centres of excellence’ in Manufacturing plus a heavy dose of Complacency has led to overpriced EV with suspect build driving on deteriorating roads and lack of real recharging infrastructure Whilst the rest of the world learning from Mobile phone assembly and and looks transferred the same to Manufacturing goods. Factories, mostly Robotic, now have long gestation periods even with high investment and a sympathetic government, not exactly the USs forte!

It costs $2k to ship a car from China so that means the China domestic EV production subsidy is running at $10k or more than the full sticker price. At least now we’re all learning the $10k EV is just CCP propaganda.
