This isn’t the original climate action post planned for today. The President of the United States is now openly claiming the power to ignore the rule of law, illegally snatch any person off the street, and deport them to a foreign concentration camp — a dictatorial action if ever there was one. This constitutional crisis is a cross-cutting all-of-society menace. Even as we try to build for a longer-term clean energy-powered future, this moment in history urgently demands an immediate response.
In this rapidly developing and deeply frightening situation, one immediately available avenue for ordinary citizens to respond is a planned anti-authoritarianism and pro-Constitution peaceful civic Nationwide Day of Action across the country set for this Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The nascent 50501 movement (for “fifty protests, fifty states, one movement”) is providing more information and action ideas at their website, fiftyfifty.one, and their Substack.
Renowned historian Dr. Heather Cox Richardson breaks down the truly unprecedented and agonizingly horrific nature of current events in more detail.

Widely read economics commentator Noah Smith underscores how important this is.
This Day of Action was set up in a hurry by ordinary people scrambling to stand up to escalating horrors, so it may seem more than a little disorganized. There’s not even (as of the time of writing this post) a cool-looking interactive map of the country to find protests near you, just an events search engine where people are posting their local plans. You can put in your zip code to find events near you. (A screenshot is below).
This is a moment in history that desperately needs as many people as possible to stand up for freedom, democracy, law, justice, civic order, human progress, and the true spirit of America. April 19th’s National Day of Action will likely be far from the last protest needed to stand up for sanity during these crazy, crazy times.
Stay strong. Stay peaceful. Take care of each other.
